What do I need to play through RigShed?

An audio interface to get your guitar in, and headphones or speakers to hear it. Any class-compliant USB-C or Lightning interface works — there is no approved list and nothing to register.

I haven't got an interface. Can I still use it?

Partly. RigShed can listen through the device microphone, which is enough to try the tuner or hear roughly what a preset does, but it will feed back through the speaker and it won't sound like the real thing. The launch screen offers to continue silently instead, which is the better way to look around before you have an interface.

Does it work with headphones?

Yes, and it handles being plugged into CarPlay or USB-C headphones without misbehaving.

Why does the amp only have Level and Mix?

Because you've loaded a capture. A NAM capture is a fixed snapshot of a real amp at one setting, so there is genuinely nothing else to turn. Switch back to a built-in amp and the controls come back: six on the clean amp — Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence and Master — and seven on Foundry, which adds Depth.

Should I load a cab impulse response?

Often not. The built-in cab is already a 12-inch open-back speaker, and a loaded IR replaces it rather than stacking on top — which is the right behaviour, because two cabs in series is what makes that combination sound wrong. Load an IR when you want a specific cab, or when you've loaded an amp-only capture that has no speaker of its own.

What does a preset actually save?

Every parameter in the chain, plus the loaded capture and cab IR. Loading a preset restores the whole rig rather than just the pedal settings. Presets export as .rigshed files, so a rig can be shared whole.

Why does the tuner not hear my drive pedal?

It listens before the amp, deliberately — drive and reverb make pitch detection worse, not better. It also only listens while its tab is open, so it isn't quietly using power in the background.

Where are my presets, captures and IRs stored?

On your device, and shared between the RigShed app and the RigShed AUv3 plug-in so both see the same library. They also sync through iCloud, which means a RigShed folder appears in Files and in the Finder — a preset or a capture can be dragged in or out without an import dialog, and a rig saved on the iPad is on the Mac. Backing tracks are deliberately not synced; they are the large files.

Does RigShed collect my data?

No. There is no account, no sign-up, no analytics and no tracking. Your guitar signal, your presets and your recordings stay on your device.

Will it drain my battery or bog down my device?

The built-in amp costs about 0.10% of one CPU core — roughly 30× cheaper than running a neural capture. Captures are heavier by nature, so if you are running one on an older device and hearing dropouts, switching to the built-in amp is the first thing to try.

Can I use it inside my DAW?

Yes. RigShed runs as an AUv3 plug-in inside GarageBand, Logic, AUM, Cubasis and any AUv3 host.

How much latency will I get?

Measure it — RigShed will tell you. Settings has a latency probe that sends a click out of the output, listens for it coming back in, and counts the samples. That is the whole path, converter to converter, including the buffer and both ends of your interface. It is not a figure calculated from the buffer size, which is the number usually quoted by people who have not measured.

My tone has gone strange and I have not changed anything

Check your microphone mode. iOS and macOS apply a processing mode to audio input, chosen in Control Centre and remembered per app, and Voice Isolation is aggressive noise suppression built to decide what is voice and throw the rest away. It will do unspeakable things to a guitar. An app can read the mode but not change it, so RigShed notices and warns you — set it back to Standard in Control Centre.
