Each tier is sold monthly or annually, and the annual works out at two months free. There is no one-off purchase and no trial: the free tier is the trial, permanently.

Why the tone is free
Because a crippled tone engine would make the free tier a demo rather than a trial, and because the amps and the pedals are the reason to want the app at all. Charging for them would mean asking you to buy something you had not properly heard.
So the split is not about withholding sound. Free plays at home. Pro is for when three saved rigs stops being enough — which happens quickly if you are using it properly. Stage is for the night you are being paid: your voice through the rig, a footswitch that actually does something, and two outputs going to two channels on the desk.
There is no trial, and that is deliberate
Not a timed one, and no free introductory month either. A month with everything unlocked only builds a cliff where the app gets worse on day 31, which is the most resented pattern in this category. The free tier is the trial, and it does not end.
Why a subscription rather than one payment
Everything in RigShed used to cost nothing to run: the amps and the pedals are code on your own device. Describing a tone is not — each one is worked out by a language model on a server, and that costs real money every time. A single payment against a cost that recurs forever does not add up, and pretending otherwise would end with the feature being quietly withdrawn.

Payments are handled by Apple. Subscriptions renew unless you cancel, and you cancel in your device settings rather than by asking us. Changing tier is Apple's to handle too: moving up takes effect at once and Apple credits what you have already paid. The terms say all of this properly.
